Jean-Joseph Dumons is received as a history painter at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, October 29, 1735, after presenting his "Adam and Eve" (Paris, ENSBA). The picture of the Petit Palais, constitutes the esquisse.Dumons illustrates when original sin is about to be committed Eve offers the forbidden fruit to Adam who will cause their fall. The symbolic repertoire is convened to announce the drama will play out. The cat was seen as the Demon of the symbol and the goat considered a symbol of Impureté.Cependant, it is not so much for the artist to offer a representation of Paradise, which provided the opportunity to paint real pieces of Nature (Nicolas Poussin, "Spring", Paris, Louvre), but rather to run two academic nudes, in which the frame is tightened.

The table was the sketch of the reception piece at the Royal Academy of Painting and Jean-Joseph Dumons Sculpture. If the table completed joined the royal collections since 1735, little is known about the fate of his esquisse.Elle reappears in the early twentieth century in the collection of Charles Vincent Ocampo, who donated it subject to usufruct, the City of Paris in 1931. in 1942, the usufruct was lifted.
